Consent to Official Rules I have read and agree to the Official Rules.
AMERICA: THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD – FREEDOM IN EDUCATION 250TH ANNIVERSARY ART & WRITING COMPETITION OFFICIAL RULES
Purpose and Applicability of Official Rules. These rules provide guidance to participants in the 250th Anniversary Art & Writing Competition hosted by Freedom in Education Corporation, a Georgia nonprofit corporation (the “Competition”), regarding eligibility, submission requirements, judging criteria, prizes, deadlines, and other applicable terms and conditions (the “Official Rules”). The Competition is a skill-based educational recognition program and not a lottery, sweepstakes, or game of chance. No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. By entering the Competition, each participant and, if the participant has not reached the Age of Majority (as defined below), the participant’s parent or legal guardian, acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Official Rules and any related agreements incorporated herein by reference. In the event of any conflict between promotional materials and these Official Rules, these Official Rules shall control. For purposes of these Official Rules, “Age of Majority” means the legal age of majority in the participant’s state of domicile.
Eligibility and Participation. The Competition is a nationwide academic and creative initiative open to students in grades 3 through 12. Participation is open to students enrolled during the 2026 calendar year in public, private, charter, homeschool, and micro-school educational settings in the United States of America. Each participant may submit one entry only, consisting of both an original artwork and a written reflection responding to the prompt: “What does freedom mean to you?” Only one entry per participant is permitted. Multiple submissions by the same participant are not allowed. Participants must complete their own work. The artwork and written reflection must not infringe any copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights of any person or entity. In the event that Freedom in Education Corporation (the “Competition Administrator”) determines, in its sole reasonable discretion, that any participant has violated the Official Rules, submitted false or misleading information, or otherwise failed to comply with the terms of the Competition, the Competition Administrator reserves the right to disqualify such participant and to withhold, deny, revoke, or require the return of any prize, in whole or in part, to the extent permitted by law.
Submission Requirements. Competition entries made by minor participants must be submitted by the minor participant’s parent or legal guardian. Entries must be original and Not Previously Published (as defined herein) and must not have been entered into other competitions. “Not Previously Published” means the artwork and written reflection have not been previously published, publicly displayed, distributed, posted online, or otherwise made available to the general public in any medium. Each entry must include the following:
A. Original Artwork. The artwork must be entirely original and created solely by the participant. Acceptable formats include painting, drawing, or collage. Photography and mixed media outside of these categories are not permitted. Artwork must be submitted as a PDF file, ideally formatted to standard 8.5 x 11-inch dimensions. If the original artwork is larger, it may be photographed; however, the image must remain clear and legible when converted to PDF.
B. Written Reflection. Participants must also submit a written reflection of no more than 500 words responding to the prompt. The reflection must be submitted as a PDF file. Entries that fail to meet formatting, originality, or submission requirements may be disqualified.
2026 Competition Timeline. March 15 – Submissions Open. Memorial Day (May 25) – Submission Deadline (earlier if the 1,500-entry cap is reached). June – Selection Committee Review. July 4 – Winners Announced. Late 2026 – Commemorative Book Publication.
Submission Process. Competition entries must be submitted through the official online competition portal. Participants may upload up to two PDF files—one containing the artwork and one containing the written reflection. Once an entry is submitted, it is considered final and may not be edited, replaced, or revised. Participants are responsible for ensuring that all uploaded files are complete, legible, and properly formatted.
Entry Cap. The Competition will accept a maximum of 1,500 entries nationwide. Once this limit is reached, submissions will close automatically, even if the published deadline has not yet passed. No additional entries will be accepted after the cap is reached.
Judging and Evaluation. Competition entries will be evaluated solely on merit by an independent panel of judges selected by the Competition Administrator and organized by grade division. All judging decisions are final and not subject to appeal. Judging criteria will include: (i) clarity and depth of response to the prompt, (ii) originality of thought and perspective, (iii) historical awareness and reflection, (iv) craftsmanship in both art and writing, and (v) meaningful connection between the visual and written components.
Prizes and Recognition. All awards and recognition will be granted solely on the basis of merit, as determined by the judging panel in accordance with the Official Rules. The Competition will have three grade divisions: grades 9–12, grades 6–8, and grades 3–5. The Competition Administrator will designate first place and second place winners within each grade division in the judging panel’s sole discretion. Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: Grades 9–12: 1st Prize – $1,500; 2nd Prize – $750. Grades 6–8: 1st Prize – $1,000; 2nd Prize – $500. Grades 3–5: 1st Prize – $500; 2nd Prize – $250. Winners will be notified using the contact information provided at the time of submission, including by email and/or telephone to the parent or legal guardian of a minor participant. It is the responsibility of the participant, or if the participant has not reached the Age of Majority, the participant’s parent or legal guardian, to ensure that contact information remains accurate and current. The Competition Administrator is not responsible for failed, delayed, or misdirected notifications resulting from incorrect, incomplete, or outdated contact information. All prizes are subject to applicable tax reporting and legal requirements. Each winner, or if the winner is a minor, the winner’s parent or legal guardian, must complete the Prize Acceptance and Tax Acknowledgment Agreement provided by the Competition Administrator before receiving the prize.
Publication. The top 250 entries nationwide will be professionally curated and published in a commemorative coffee-table book celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, with publication anticipated in late 2026. Copies of the book may be sold by the Competition Administrator in furtherance of its tax-exempt purposes.
Teacher and Classroom Incentives. Educators whose students receive awards or whose classrooms achieve 75% or greater participation may be eligible for recognition and incentives, including patriotic and civic-themed book bundles, classroom resources, and special acknowledgment. Consent Requirements and Legal Documents. Each participant, or if the participant has not reached the Age of Majority, the participant’s parent or legal guardian, must complete the Consent, Release, and License Agreement before submitting a Competition entry. I further acknowledge that this Agreement includes, among other provisions, releases of certain claims and grants of rights, including intellectual property and publicity rights, that might otherwise be asserted, and I voluntarily and knowingly agree to be bound by its terms on my own behalf if Participant has reached the Age of Majority, or on behalf of myself and the Participant if Participant has not reached the Age of Majority.
Consent to Participate. I, on behalf of myself and Participant, hereby consent to Participant’s participation in the Competition, or if Participant has reached the Age of Majority, I consent to my own participation in the Competition. I represent that if Participant has not reached the Age of Majority, I have full legal authority to execute this Agreement on behalf of the Participant. Agreement to Official Rules. I acknowledge that I have read and understand the Official Rules. I agree to be bound by those rules and by the decisions of FIE and its judges, which shall be final and binding.

(iii) I am solely responsible for providing accurate taxpayer identification information, determining and satisfying any federal, state, or local tax obligations arising from receipt of a prize. (iv) FIE does not provide tax advice and makes no representations regarding tax consequences and encourages consultation with a tax advisor. If a prize is awarded, I agree to execute the Prize Acceptance and Tax Acknowledgment Agreement provided by FIE and provide any required taxpayer identification information necessary for lawful reporting prior to receiving the prize. I acknowledge and agree that execution of such agreement and timely provision of all required information are express conditions precedent to receipt of any prize, and that no prize will be issued unless and until these requirements are satisfied in full.

For the purposes of this Agreement, “Participant’s Representatives” means, collectively, the Participant’s parents, legal guardians, heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns, and any other person or entity who may now or in the future assert any rights, claims, or interests on behalf of or derivatively from the Participant. I hereby grant to FIE, its subsidiaries, affiliates, and authorized representatives the right and permission to use, without additional compensation or notice, Participant’s name, school, grade level, photograph, film, record, or otherwise capture the Participant’s likeness, image, and/or voice in connection with the Competition. I further, on behalf of myself and Participant’s Representatives, hereby irrevocably assigns, transfers, and conveys to FIE (and, as applicable, its successors and assigns) exclusively and in perpetuity, all right, title, and interest, including all copyrights and other intellectual property rights, throughout the world, in and to any and all photographs, films, recordings, or other media of any kind taken or captured in connection with the Competition that depict or contain Participant’s name, photograph, image, voice, likeness, and/or any identifiable attributes, in whole or in part, in any media (collectively, the “Works”). To the extent any moral rights, rights of attribution or integrity, or similar rights may exist in the Works, I hereby waive such rights to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law and, to the extent not waivable, I hereby irrevocably consent to any act or omission by FIE that would otherwise infringe such rights. Without limiting the foregoing ownership grant, FIE shall have the unrestricted right to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, display, publicly perform, create derivative works from, and otherwise exploit the Works, in whole or in part, in any media now known or later developed, for development or charitable solicitation, promoting the Competition or similar events, advertising, educational purposes, publication in print or digital books (including print or digital books sold by FIE in furtherance of its tax exempt purposes), compilations, anthologies, trade, and any other lawful purposes, without further notification, inspection, or approval and with no additional compensation to the Participant or Participant’s Representatives. I irrevocably release FIE from liability in connection with the creation, use, or exploitation of the Works. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a Participant, or if the Participant has not reached the Age of Majority, the Participant’s parent or legal guardian, has the right under this Agreement to request that the Participant’s name be published using the Participant’s first name only, or not published at all, with only the Participant’s grade level and school identified. Any such request may be submitted in writing by email to info@freedomined.org

Grant of Intellectual Property License. For purposes of this Agreement, “Submission” means the artwork, writing, or other materials created and submitted by the Participant, or if the Participant has not reached the Age of Majority, the Participant’s parent or legal guardian, in connection with the Competition. I acknowledge that the Participant retains ownership of the Submission, provided the Submission is original and does not infringe upon the rights of any third party. I represent and warrant that: (i) The Submission constitutes the original work of the Participant; (ii) The Submission does not infringe any copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights of any person or entity; and (iii) No third-party consent is required for FIE’s use as described below. In consideration of participation in the Competition, I hereby grant to FIE a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to (i) display, reproduce, publish, distribute, and publicly perform the Submission; (ii) use the Submission for promotional, educational, marketing, fundraising, archival, and program-related purposes; and (iii) use the Submission on social media, website, video, and publication in print or digital books including print or digital books sold by FIE in furtherance of its tax exempt purposes, compilations, anthologies, and other materials in any media now known or later developed. This license includes the right to use excerpts, adapt formatting for publication, and reproduce images of the Submission.
Eligibility Verification; Right to Withhold or Revoke Prize. I acknowledge and agree that FIE reserves the right to verify Participant’s eligibility and compliance with the Agreement and Official Rules at any time prior to and following distribution of the prize. In the event that FIE determines, in its sole reasonable discretion, that Participant has violated the Official Rules, submitted false or misleading information, breached any representation or warranty, or otherwise failed to comply with the terms of the Competition or the Agreement, FIE reserves the right to disqualify Participant and to withhold, deny, revoke, or require the return of the prize, in whole or in part, to the extent permitted by law.

Such information may be disclosed to FIE’s third-party website management vendor solely for facilitating the Competition. Participation is not conditioned on disclosing more personal information than reasonably necessary.
Release and Covenant Not to Sue. I, on my own behalf if Participant has reached the Age of Majority, or on behalf of myself and the Participant if Participant has not reached the Age of Majority, hereby irrevocably and unconditionally release and agree not to sue Freedom in Education Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, managers, employees, volunteers, agents, judges, sponsors, and related parties (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, costs, or liabilities arising out of or relating to the Participant’s entry into or participation in the Competition, the submission or evaluation of materials, the announcement of winners, acceptance or use of any prize, and the exercise of rights granted under this Agreement, including publicity and intellectual property rights, except for claims resulting from willful or wanton misconduct.
Indemnification. I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising out of or relating to the Participant’s submission, alleged infringement of third-party rights, breach of representations or warranties, or participation in the Competition or use of any prize, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and defense costs, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Mediation and Arbitration of Disputes. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the Competition or this Agreement shall first be submitted to mediation administered by Henning Mediation & Arbitration Service, Inc. (“HMA”). If mediation does not resolve the dispute, it shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by HMA under its rules, with proceedings held in Atlanta, Georgia, before a single arbitrator meeting HMA qualifications. The parties waive the right to bring civil lawsuits except to compel arbitration, seek temporary injunctive relief in aid of arbitration, or enforce an arbitration award.
Governing Law; Venue. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Georgia. Any permitted court proceedings shall occur exclusively in courts located in Atlanta, Georgia.
General Provisions. If any provision of this Agreement is held invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties regarding the subject matter and supersedes all prior discussions. This Agreement may be executed electronically.
I certify that I have carefully read this Agreement and fully understand its contents. I acknowledge that it includes a waiver of liability, release of claims, and indemnification obligation, and that by signing I am voluntarily giving up certain legal rights. If Participant has reached the Age of Majority, I am signing on my own behalf. If Participant has not reached the Age of Majority, I am signing as the parent or legal guardian on behalf of myself and the Participant. I acknowledge that I have had the opportunity to ask questions and consult independent legal counsel before signing. If signing on behalf of a minor, I attest that I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor participant, that I have the legal authority to execute this Agreement on the minor’s behalf, and that I have reached the Age of Majority.
