May 14, 2024, Atlanta, GA – On May 14, 2024, Freedom In Education (FIE) ensured 100 school libraries scattered across the nation received wholesome book bundles to help protect the hearts and minds of children. FIE is thrilled to announce that through their grassroots efforts and donors, they were able to raise $10,000 for their Good Book Drive initiative, which is a partnership with the Tuttle Twins Book Publishers, as well as Big Sky Life Books and Chicken Scratch Books to ensure quality books end up in the hands of the next generation.
“The Good Book Drive was born out of a concerted effort to counter the efforts of organizations that are determined to poison our children’s library with sexually explicit and concerning reading materials,” said FIE co-founder and Manager of Community Engagement Miranda Stovall. “Instead of being upset about it, we decided it was time to act.”
After assessing the most destructive aspects of public education, and with parents’ rights and rich, quality content at the heart of their mission, FIE has vetted and is promoting solid solutions, including their Good Books Drive. This program falls into their Enhancing Education initiative and has impacted schools in twenty-one (21) different states, with 100 bundles and 1,149 books sent across the country.
The facts are sobering- 5,800 K-12 schools were gifted books containing sexually explicit or concerning ideological content, with 15% of these books being infused into class curriculum and 60% of schools purchasing more of these books. With $28 million already donated to the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Rainbow Library, a whopping 2.5 million students across 30 states are now seeing and being encouraged to read materials that are sexually explicit or contain a concerning agenda.
“Parents can no longer trust the books their kids have access to will be clean and free from agendas. They won’t be. Now more than ever, parents need to become aware of the dangers lurking inside an innocent-looking book,” said Kiri Jorgensen of Chicken Scratch Books. “Middle grade readers are of the age where they are actively building their personal worldviews. Instead of giving them books filled with the ills of society, let’s give them books filled with personal virtues they can adopt to improve society. Let them read stories about integrity and personal responsibility, selflessness, and empathy. Strong writing coupled with examples of personal growth are the elements of middle-grade books that will help our kids become noble humans. The Freedom in Education Good Books Initiative provides these positive growth books to kids who otherwise would only have the planned agenda-filled alternative at their schools.”
Their Good Book Drive continues into 2024, as they look to raise even more funding to purchase book bundles for another 100 schools. Watch their video here to learn more.
